Want to know a secret? I cried most of the way through this ceremony – but before you get to worried, I use auto focus (and tissues) so all is well! As the minister Craig (and one of Daniels very best friends) spoke about life and love, and how these two things relate to a marriage, my eyes welled a little. As Gundi’s brothers presented a bottle full of her life thus far as a Scheibmair, and a bottle for her new beginnings as Daniels wife, the welling might have gotten a little worse. Then Daniels brother played a beautiful guitar solo that fitted in so easily with the feeling of the guests, and then as Daniel and Gundi said their vows, yup, I ruined my makeup! Lucky I was wearing waterproof mascara
Why the emotion I hear you ask? I met Daniel through my partner Tom about 9 years ago. And I have seen him change so much as a result of his relationship with Gundi. It seems like Daniel really found his place when he met Gundi, you know what I mean? This is not to say his life was boring without her, he is that guy, you know, the one who has all the stories, and is likely to be the one walking down the street as the house in front of him blows up, (true story, ask him, he will show you the cell phone video) the guy that will try anything (including the broom trick, ask him about that too!) remember a conversation with a friend of a friend and ask after them later on, just a sweet, somewhat clumsy yet smooth dude. It just seemed he morphed into Daniel 2.0 with her in it. She’s a strong, independent woman who knows her own mind, definitely has opinions, and is one of the most gentle people I have met. They go together like pancakes and maple syrup!
When Daniel and Gundi asked me to shoot their wedding about 12 months earlier, I initially declined, but you know what? Saying yes was the best decision I made that month! I had a fantastic day, celebrating their love and commitment to each other, spending time with their families overlooking the lovely Whangaruru Harbour. I can’t think of a more beautiful setting for a wedding that was all about family and friends. The reception was full of speeches that were real and true. No fluff, just laughing, loving, and a lot of poking fun! Gundi and Daniel – I wish you nothing but the very best. Keep loving, laughing and putting your own unique spin on your love – and remember, like Mr and Mrs S showed, the recipe for a long lasting love will be entirely of your own making – have a blast working out the best one for you!
Here are a few of my favorites from the day.
